The fans, who were part of a group of Sporting Cristal supporters, started to protest against the players after a training session. They threw eggs at the players' vehicles and began to claim against them. When Julio César Uribe, who was trying to calm the situation, stepped out of his car, he was punched by one of the fans.
Sporting Cristal has condemned the aggression and informed that some of the involved fans will be reported to the Public Ministry. The club stated that "criticism and disagreement are legitimate and part of football, but aggression, intimidation, and violence are not". The team is currently in 10th place in the local league with 29 points in 24 matches.
Julio César Uribe has an extraordinary sports career and is recognized as a person with firm values, great strength, and enormous human quality. He was a key player in Sporting Cristal's bicampeonato in 1979 and 1980, and later returned to the club in 1988, helping them win another title.
