Huntelaar highlights the difference between life as a footballer and working in an office. He was part of Ajax's technical organisation from March 2022 until he had to stop due to health reasons. "It became really hard work, while you just wanted to be outside," he told Sportnieuws.nl. "My phone was constantly ringing. That was never the case during my time as a footballer. Then you would occasionally network, but most of the time you were just enjoying playing football."
Huntelaar explains how serious the situation was by saying he couldn't even do the smallest things. "I was completely out of it. I had my focus on one thing and saw the rest around me no more. I was basically knocked out." Now, Huntelaar is on the mend. "I'm physically rebuilding now, after not doing much for two years. At first, I couldn't do anything, not even paddle."
Huntelaar is now training regularly, but is taking it easy on the work front. "I paddle once a week, do crossfit twice a week and train with a personal trainer twice a week. I've also started playing football again, which is just nice. I don't want to push myself too hard. Otherwise, I'll feel like I'm back in top sport and want to be the best again. Then I'll be putting myself in my own way. I'm currently just recovering."
