The Champions League logo, which consists of eight stars, represents the first eight participants in the competition. PSV and Club Brugge were two of these pioneering clubs, along with Olympique Marseille, Rangers FC, CSKA Moskou, AC Milan, IFK Göteborg, and FC Porto. The first Champions League season consisted of two groups of four clubs, with PSV and Club Brugge being part of the inaugural group.
Eric Gerets, a Belgian player who has played for both PSV and Club Brugge, has been invited by PSV to watch the match from the Legends Lounge. Gerets has predicted a 1-1 draw between the two teams, a "politiek correct antwoord" that reflects the complexity of the match.
