Donny van de Beek, a 29-year-old midfielder, was not impressed by the financial offer from FC Twente. The Eredivisie club had shown interest in Van de Beek, but he was not willing to leave Girona. Van de Beek is contracted to Girona for two more years, making a return to the Eredivisie unlikely.

Erik ten Hag, who previously worked with Van de Beek at Ajax, made a bid for the midfielder. However, Van de Beek was not under the impression of the financial package. The duo had a successful partnership at Ajax, winning several titles, including the league, cup, and Johan Cruijff Schaal. They narrowly missed the Champions League final in 2019.

Van de Beek's time at Manchester United was unsuccessful, and he later played for Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt before joining Girona in 2024 for €0.5 million. Sjaak Swart previously stated that Van de Beek wanted to return to Ajax, but Jordi Cruijff did not agree.
