Atalanta's Giacomo Raspadori scored the first goal for the team in the 6th minute, with a rocket of a finish off the underside of the crossbar. However, Sassuolo equalised in the 55th minute through Cas Odenthal's nod in from close range. Atalanta restored their advantage in the 65th minute, with Nikola Krstovic drilling home after a long Carnesecchi goal kick fell kindly for him.

Sassuolo was missing several players due to injury or suspension, including Domenico Berardi, Andrea Pinamonti, Sebastian Walukiewicz, Daniel Boloca, Edoardo Pieragnolo, Fali Cande and Ismael Kone. Atalanta's Thomas Kristensen suffered an injury in the Conference League play-off against Hapoel Tel-Aviv, joining Isak Hien, Honest Ahanor and Kamaldeen Sulemana on the treatment table.

The win is a much-needed boost for Atalanta, who were struggling to adapt to Sarri's tactics after a disappointing 0-0 first leg draw with Hapoel Tel-Aviv in the Conference League play-off. The team will look to build on this momentum as they face their next challenge in the Serie A.
