Theo Janssen has welcomed Joey Veerman's return to the Dutch national team, stating that he can genuinely enjoy watching the Oranje-international. In a conversation with Voetbal International, Janssen revealed that he recognises many similarities between himself and Veerman. This is partly why he is pleased with Veerman's return to the national team.
Janssen noted that Veerman has developed further, particularly in his ability to play at a high level in a top competition, such as the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund. However, in terms of their playing style and character, Janssen believes they have a lot in common. Veerman's ability to be himself and express his opinions freely is something that Janssen appreciates.
Janssen also pointed out that Veerman and he share some physical characteristics, such as not being particularly fast. Nevertheless, they are both able to press forward and play passes between the lines to create scoring opportunities.
