The 2027 MLS sprint season will be a one-time shortened competition featuring 14 intra-conference matches. This adjustment to the calendar is a precursor to the MLS shift to a summer-to-spring format. The regular season will see each club play seven matches at home and seven away against opponents from the same conference.
The top eight teams from each conference will qualify for the playoffs, where games will be played in a single-elimination bracket to determine the Eastern and Western conference champions. The winners of each conference will then face off in the 2027 MLS Cup. The tournament will culminate with the MLS Cup playoffs in May.
The opening game between Inter Miami CF and FC Cincinnati will take place on February 19 at Nu Stadium in Miami, Florida, with a kick-off time of 8 p.m. ET on Friday. The rest of matchday one games will be played on Saturday, February 20, and Sunday, February 21. The full 2027 sprint season calendar will be announced on October 29 at 2 p.m. ET.
The 2027-28 MLS season will begin in July, leading to a title game in May 2028.
