Jurgen Streppel has been appointed as the new trainer of Willem II, replacing John Stegeman who was fired last week. Streppel, 57, has signed a contract for the rest of the season. He has previously worked with Willem II between 2011 and 2016, during which time the team promoted to the Eredivisie twice.

Streppel has also coached Heerenveen and Helmond Sport after his stint at Willem II. The team reached the next round of the KNVB-beker on Tuesday by beating Helmond Sport, a result that will give them some much-needed confidence. Willem II are currently last in the Eredivisie with just two points after ten games.

Technical director Freek Heerkens believes that Streppel's appointment is a positive move, citing his courage and willingness to take responsibility. "He just jumped into this challenge at the right moment," Heerkens said. Streppel himself has expressed his commitment to the team's goal of securing a spot in the Eredivisie. The first test for Streppel and his team will come on Saturday when they face PSV away from home.
