The club have expressed their faith in Polzin, who guided them back into the top-flight last season and kept them there. Sporting director Kathleen Krüger praised Polzin's coaching team, saying: "They impress us with their expertise, their meticulousness, their diligence and their daily passion."
Polzin, a Hamburg native, has a strong connection to the city and its club. He led the team to a 13th-place finish in the 2025/26 season, finishing nine points clear of the relegation play-off spot after gaining promotion 12 months earlier. Polzin expressed his gratitude to the club, saying: "Everyone knows how much this city, this club and this stadium mean to me. I'm all the more pleased to have my entire coaching team and staff by my side."
HSV will look to get their first points of the season on the board when they host Cologne on Matchday 4.
