Amrabat has been signed by Ajax to fill a defensive midfield role, a position the club has been searching for. However, not everyone is convinced of the 78-time international's abilities. Nicky van der Gijp, a former Dutch international, expressed his doubts about Amrabat's skills during an interview at De Oranjezomer. "I heard Jordi Cruijff say: we want a playing 6. That was a big topic," Van der Gijp said.

Van der Gijp also watched Amrabat's last two games for Real Betis, against FC Barcelona and Elche, and was not impressed. "He's not a fantastic player," Van der Gijp stated. Despite his reservations, Van der Gijp did acknowledge Amrabat's strengths as a defensive midfielder. "He's a great defensive midfielder. He's strong, tall, and never loses a duel. But he can't play football that well," Van der Gijp said.

Ajax will face PSV at home next weekend, and Amrabat may make his debut for the club.
