A Journey from Abidjan to the Bundesliga

Yan Diomande was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on November 14, 2006. At a young age, he moved to the USA and joined the DME Academy in Florida. Diomande's performances for the academy's associate team, AS Frenzi, led to an undefeated season and the local league title in 2023.

A Trial with Rangers and a Move to Leganés

In October 2023, Diomande had a trial with Scottish side Rangers, but he ultimately returned to DME Academy. He signed his first professional contract with Spanish La Liga side Leganés in November 2024. Despite getting off to a slow start, Diomande soon managed to stand out in Spain, scoring one goal and assisting another in a final-day victory over Real Valladolid as the Spanish outfit were relegated.

A Debut Season to Remember

After making the switch to RB Leipzig, Diomande was handed his first Bundesliga start against Bayern Munich in the 2025/26 season opener. While a 6-0 defeat was not the debut he would have wished for, things have only improved since then. On Matchday 8, he scored his first of 12 Bundesliga goals for the club against Augsburg, marking the start of a memorable debut campaign.

International Recognition

Internationally, Diomande represents the country of his birth. Having made one U17 and U23 appearance apiece, he was called up to the senior side for the first time in October 2025. The youngster hit the ground running, too, netting three goals for Côte d'Ivoire before earning his first FIFA World Cup assist against Curaçao.

A Star in the Making

Diomande is naturally right-footed, but is able to play off either foot and on either wing. With pace to burn, combined with outrageous levels of skill and agility, there are clear similarities to Spain international Nico Williams. Moreover, his decision making - and consistency - is extraordinary for someone so young, as shown by his ability to produce an end product in the form of goals and assists.

A Bright Future Ahead

Diomande is the first Ivorian to feature for Leipzig, and is just the sixth African to step out for the side, following the likes of Naby Keïta and Ademola Lookman. With his talent and work ethic, it's no surprise that he's already making waves in the Bundesliga. As Leipzig managing director Marcel Schäfer said, "He's a left winger with outstanding speed, can dribble, is very athletic and can finish. He also never gives up the ball and works for the team."

A Legacy in the Making

Thales Peterson, former Director of Soccer at DME Academy, praised Diomande's dedication to improving his game day in and day out. "He is not just a gifted athlete but also a team player who understands the importance of collaboration and unity on and off the field. We are incredibly proud of his achievements, and we believe this is just the beginning of an extraordinary career."

A Star in the Making

Former Leipzig head coach Ole Werner highlighted Diomande's ability to work for the team and his good counter-pressing skills. "It's a matter of attitude, and he demonstrates that." With his talent, work ethic, and attitude, Yan Diomande is certainly a star in the making.
