The Diablos Rojos dominated the game from the start, with Federico Viñas hitting the post in the fourth minute. Toluca eventually took the lead through Alexis Vega, who scored in the first half. Helinho sealed the win with a second goal in the 70th minute.
Mohamed's success in Mexico is not new, having previously won titles with Tijuana, América, and Monterrey. He has also had success outside of Mexico, winning the Copa Sudamericana with Independiente in 2010 and the Campeonato Mineiro and Supercopa de Brasil with Atlético Mineiro in 2022.
Vega praised Mohamed's leadership, saying he is the "best coach" in Mexico. The Mexican captain also thanked Mohamed for helping him grow as a player.
Toluca's victory marks the first time a Liga MX team has won the Leagues Cup since the tournament began in its current format in 2023. The Diablos Rojos will continue their participation in the Apertura 2026 and will also compete in the Copa Intercontinental.
