His father believes that if he continues to perform at this level, he has the potential to reach the top three in the Netherlands, and possibly even higher. "Als hij gewoon zo doorgaat, dan moet hij de top-3 van Nederland wel kunnen halen", his father said. "En misschien nog wel daarbuiten."
Van Bergen's father also highlighted his son's contrasting personalities on and off the pitch. "Op het veld is hij eigenlijk een beul. Maar thuis is hij gewoon Thom. Een lieve jongen", he said.
