Thilo Kehrer, a 29-year-old German international, is set to join Ajax on loan from AS Monaco this season, according to Voetbal International. The 28-time German international has stated that he had positive conversations with Ajax's technical director Jordi Cruijff and goalkeeper Marc ter Stegen during his transfer negotiations.
Kehrer will provide defensive reinforcement for Ajax at right centre-back. The German has previously played for Schalke 04, Paris Saint-Germain, West Ham United and AS Monaco. "I'm happy it worked out and I'm here. I'm looking forward to starting," Kehrer said on Ajax's official website, which spoke with him in the lead-up to his transfer.
Kehrer has praised Ajax's technical director Jordi Cruijff, stating that he didn't need to be convinced by him. "Jordi didn't need to convince me. He explained the plan and told me about the expectations and ambitions. He also told me about the team and how the coach works with the team. That all sounded very positive. It gave me a good idea of what I could expect and what was expected of me. That's why I'm looking forward to it," Kehrer said.
Kehrer will join fellow German international Julian Brandt and Marc ter Stegen at Ajax, with whom he has previously played for the German national team. "I've spoken to Marc over the past few days. He asked me if there was a chance I would also join. We had good conversations about Ajax and how he finds it here. That was a confirmation for me and it's nice to see old teammates again. I know Julian and Marc from the national team and I played with Caio Henrique at Monaco. It's always good to play with old acquaintances again," Kehrer said.
Kehrer is expected to start training with Ajax soon.
