Sassuolo's Josh Doig and Kieron Bowie are among the players recalled after missing the World Cup, having impressed at the Mapei Stadium. Bowie scored in Sunday's 3-2 win over Juventus, with Doig also featuring. The Italian contingent also includes Napoli midfielder Billy Gilmour, who returns after a knee problem, and Bologna's Lewis Ferguson, Udinese's Lennon Miller, and Torino defender Nathan Patterson. Miller is another of the seven players back in after missing the World Cup.
Scotland's squad in full has been released, with Pocognoli's first games in charge being Nations League fixtures away to Slovenia on 26 September and at home to Switzerland three days later.
