The renovation of Camp Nou has been a long and complex process, with the first preparatory work beginning in 2022. FC Barcelona was forced to find a temporary home from the start of the 2023/2024 football season, with the Olympisch Stadion on Montjuïc serving as their temporary base. The club had hoped to return to Camp Nou by the end of 2024, but it wasn't until 22 November 2025 that they finally returned to their iconic stadium.
The full opening of Camp Nou has been delayed by a year, with the new target date now set for 2028. The renovation is expected to cost around €1.5 billion, with a significant portion of this cost going towards the installation of a new, massive roof structure. This will include a 48,000m³ cable construction and a walkway that will allow fans to access the roof. The installation of the roof is set to begin in the summer of 2027, with the process expected to take between four and eight months.
