Middlesbrough Advance to Second Round

Middlesbrough almost claimed an early opener but Danny Ward made a superb point-blank save to deny Adilson Malanda. The visitors went close again when Sam Smith fired a low shot into the legs of Sol Brynn.
Lankshear came close with an effort that curled just over the bar at the start of the second half. He then scored with a superb first-time volley after Leo Castledine headed Jeremy Sarmiento's cross into his path.
Middlesbrough almost doubled their lead but Morgan Whittaker's low strike rebounded off the post. The win sees Middlesbrough advance to the second round of the Carabao Cup, with Lankshear's debut goal proving decisive.
