According to Webb, the VAR team got "tunnel vision" over Erling Haaland, who was initially deemed offside but was later found to be onside. This led to the VAR team only checking for a touch by Fernandez, which would have created a new offside phase against Haaland. However, they failed to evaluate the full impact of Fernandez's position, resulting in the offside offence going unnoticed.

BBC Football reports that Webb has already been in contact with Manchester United to share the VAR audio and video, and has expressed his disappointment with the outcome. The referees' chief has stated that the goal should have been disallowed and that the VAR team will review the incident to prevent similar errors from happening again.
