Liverpool's Defensive Woes

Liverpool are understood to be short of options at the back, with Jérémy Jacquet, who signed from Rennes in February, yet to make a competitive appearance due to a serious shoulder injury. The club's concerns were further exacerbated by injuries to Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni.

Loan Deal for Araújo

The Reds have agreed to sign Ronald Araújo on a season-long loan from Barcelona, with the 27-year-old Uruguay defender expected to complete his medical on Sunday. Araújo has made over 200 appearances for Barcelona, although he only made 11 league starts under Hansi Flick last season.

Option to Buy

The deal for Araújo is believed to contain an option to buy at the end of the season, providing Liverpool with a potential long-term solution to their defensive woes. Araújo's arrival will add much-needed cover to the Liverpool backline, particularly with Jacquet still recovering from his injury.

Alternative Options

Liverpool have held talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a move for Bradley Barcola, although the European champions value him at around £145m. The club has also shown interest in Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa, but were put off by the England defender's £60m valuation.
