Lionel Messi, the world champion with Argentina, has reached a preliminary agreement with the current owners of Deportivo Eldense to become the club's majority shareholder. This would be the first time Messi takes control of a club in Spain, as he already has a stake in Cornellà, a Catalan team competing in Tercera RFEF. The Deportivo Eldense currently has around 3,500 season ticket holders in a town of over 55,000 inhabitants, with their stadium, the Nuevo Pepico Amat, having a capacity of around 5,800 spectators. The team is currently 20th in the La Liga 2 table, with two draws and two defeats in their first four matches. Interim coach Josep Ferrando expressed his optimism about the potential arrival of Messi as an investor, stating that the team has tried to isolate themselves to focus on the game against Sporting de Gijón.
