Lazio have started the 2025-26 Serie A season with nine points from their first three matches, their best start in 14 years, according to Voetbal International. This feat had not been achieved since the 2012-13 season. The Italian club had a disappointing season last year, finishing ninth under Maurizio Sarri, their worst position since 2014. The team's poor performance was also reflected in the attendance at their home stadium, the Stadio Olimpico, which was often poorly filled due to protests from the supporters.
Gattuso, however, is pleased with the team assembled by Claudio Lotito and Angelo Fabiano. He praised their efforts in the transfer market, saying, "It was difficult, but we have achieved a transfer window that I did not think was possible." The club strengthened themselves in the summer with players like Danilo Doekhi, Dave Fratessi, Josip Sutalo, and Albert Gudmundsson. Fratessi and Gudmundsson scored important goals in the match against Udinese, while Doekhi provided the assist for the winning goal.
Fratessi has scored in all three matches, a feat not achieved by any Lazio player since Mauro Zárate in the 2008-09 season. He expressed his surprise at the team's strong start, saying, "I did not expect this, but I feel good and I am eager for every match." Lazio will face a tough test on Saturday when they host AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico. For Gattuso, it will be a special match given his past as a player for the Rossoneri.
