Lazio's season ticket sales have plummeted from close to 30,000 last year to less than 4,500, according to Calcio e Finanza. The boycott against Claudio Lotito has resulted in empty sections at the Stadio Olimpico for Lazio's matches. Despite this, fans have been travelling in their thousands to away games, even for unglamorous pre-season friendlies.
The feud with Lotito is not new, with an open letter posted to Change.org in January accusing him of denying fans the right to dream throughout his more-than two decades as owner. Lotito was accused of denying Paparelli's niece a chance to walk on to the pitch during an event last November. He has also been accused of not paying attention to Lazio while his focus is elsewhere, as he is active in politics, having been elected to the Italian senate in 2022.
Lazio are currently top of the table in Serie A, but the boycott is likely to continue until the club's owner, Claudio Lotito, addresses the fans' concerns. The same fixture on Saturday had less than half the number of spectators as last season's home game against Milan, which drew 50,000 spectators.
