Jesús Méndez has rejoined the football pitch, five years after announcing his retirement from Independiente Rivadavia. The 42-year-old has accepted a new challenge in the football of his province, barely a few weeks after speaking publicly about what it meant to leave the activity. La Libertad made the announcement through Instagram, accompanied by a review of Méndez's extensive career, which includes stints at River, Olimpo, St. Gallen of Switzerland, Rosario Central, Boca, Independiente, Toluca, and Vélez.
Méndez's return to football comes after he spoke about the end of his professional career and the change it brought, saying it was a "very big change" after living with a marked routine for so long. He also reflected on the personal difficulties he faced during that time, including the deaths of his brother and father.
La Libertad will face Atlético Argentario this Sunday, September 6, and Méndez's presence will depend on whether he is cleared and available to the coaching staff.
