The Eredivisie match was marred by fireworks from the Feyenoord supporters, which caused a 20-minute interruption in the first half. Several people were injured in the incident, including fans of SC Cambuur.

The fireworks were launched from the visiting supporters' area and some landed near the SC Cambuur fans, while one even hit the Feyenoord goalkeeper, Tjark Ernst, narrowly missing him.

The incident was condemned by both clubs, the mayor of the city, and the Royal Dutch Football Association. Feyenoord director Robert Eenhoorn stated that one of their own goalkeepers had a firework launched at him and managed to avoid it.

The match resumed after the interruption and Feyenoord went on to win 5-2.
