According to VoetbalPrimeur, FC Twente and PSV will be the last Dutch clubs to play against an Eredivisie ball before a prolonged international break. The two teams will face each other at De Grolsch Veste on Sunday at 16:45, effectively closing the Eredivisie for the time being. This is due to the FIFA's decision to merge the September and October international breaks, resulting in an extended period of time off for the players.
The players will return to their national teams on Monday, 21 September, and will not return to their clubs until after the weekend of 4 October. This is a result of the FIFA's goal to protect the health of the players, as stated by FIFA president Gianni Infantino. The prolonged break will give national team coaches, such as Xavi, extra time to get to know their players. Oranje will play four matches in the upcoming international period.
The Eredivisie will resume on 9 October with a match between PSV and SC Heerenveen.
