Chelsea dominated possession in the match, but their attack was contained for long spells. Despite goals from Morgan Rogers and João Pedro, Hull's spotless defensive record was ended, and the Spaniard's side remain a mess without the ball. Chelsea are conceding at a rate of two a game, and their winless run against promoted sides has now reached five games.

The match saw a bold move from Chelsea's manager Xabi Alonso, who switched to a 4-2-3-1 system. However, this move did not work, and Chelsea were punished for defensive errors. Mohamed Belloumi scored twice, first in the 34th minute and then again in the 41st minute, to help Hull earn a point.

Chelsea made a fast start and were ahead after leaving four players forward at a Hull corner in the seventh minute. However, they forgot how to do the basics and were too open and lacked alertness off the ball. Hull attacked again, and Belloumi flicked the ball on, allowing Lewie Coyle to see his low shot deflected behind by Levi Colwill's goalline clearance.

The second half saw Chelsea's frustration grow, with Hull's timewasting at goal-kicks and throw-ins testing their patience. However, Chelsea soon levelled, with Cole Palmer stirring and lifting his team. The No 10 drove down the left, Hull surprised by the directness, and his cutback was perfectly placed for João Pedro to equalise with a rising shot.

The match ended 2-2, with Chelsea still lacking control. Alonso looked to shift the dynamic, but Hull's substitutes gave them a threat, and they could have nicked it.
