According to Globo Esporte Futebol, the Chelsea group of technology American Clearlake Capital Group has acquired the shares of the other three partners, including Boehly, Mark Walter, Hansjörg Wyss, and the Clearlake group. This move will give Clearlake total control of the English club. Boehly, who has been at the helm since 2022, will leave his position.
Boehly has been in charge since 2022, when Chelsea was sold by Russian Roman Abramovich. He was joined by fellow Americans Mark Walter and Hansjörg Wyss, as well as the Clearlake group.
In a statement, Boehly said: "It was an honour to serve as president of Chelsea Football Club. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to ensuring a bright future for the club, including the Premier League, coaches and players, the talented Chelsea board and team, and dedicated fans."
Boehly's four-year tenure has seen Chelsea win only two titles: the 2024/25 UEFA Europa Conference League and the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
