Vermeeren, who won the Belgian title and Beker van België with Royal Antwerp FC at a young age, moved to Atlético Madrid for €20 million in 2023 but failed to make a significant impact. He later joined RB Leipzig on loan and then permanently, before being loaned out to Olympique Marseille last season.
