The provocation occurred on Saturday night, when Al-Taawoun's fans repeatedly shouted the name of Diogo Jota, a player who died in a car accident last year, in an attempt to provoke Neves. The incident happened before the match between Al-Taawoun and Al-Hilal, which Al-Hilal won 6-0.

Cristiano Ronaldo had previously called for a harsh punishment against the fans involved, demanding a lifelong ban from stadiums. The Al-Hilal club also presented a formal complaint to the Saudi Arabian Football Federation. Al-Taawoun has condemned the behaviour of their fans and stated that they will cooperate with the authorities responsible for the case.

As a result of the punishment, Al-Taawoun's next two home games will be played without public attendance. The club has also been fined R$ 136,000.
