The club has since grown significantly and now boasts two head coaches, two Dutch players in the squad, and a former Eredivisie striker as technical director. Romano Postema, the top scorer in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie last season, recently watched the Champions League draw with his teammates. They saw how the Norwegians were paired with Bayern München, Napoli, Atlético Madrid, Feyenoord, and PSV.
In 2018, the club was relegated to the second tier and was thrashed 5-0 by Nest-Sotra FK in front of just 274 spectators. Erik Nevland, Viking FK's technical director, describes the club at that time as an amateur outfit. 'I would also describe Nest-Sotra FK as an amateur club,' he says.
Viking FK will now face Bayern München in the Champions League, a remarkable development for the club.
