According to Driessen, KNVB director of top football Nigel de Jong wants international players with dual nationality to make a country choice by the age of 18. Oufkir, however, has yet to make a decision. Driessen saw Ajax talent Abdellah Ouazane debut for Morocco and wants the KNVB to avoid a similar situation with Oufkir.
Driessen believes that Oufkir has a chance to play for Oranje due to the lack of players on the right wing position, with only Crysencio Summerville currently available. However, Oufkir also has the option to play for Morocco. Driessen notes that Feyenoord talent Ibrahim Faik, who previously played for Moroccan youth teams, has recently decided to play for Dutch youth teams instead.
Driessen argues that to prevent a country switch, De Jong should instruct Oranje coach Xavi to select Oufkir. This would also be in the best interest of the Dutch national team in the long term. The KNVB would be missing its goal if it continues to develop players for Morocco, Driessen claims.
