Souza, who was previously with Santos, will undergo medical exams and finalize the bureaucratic procedures in Portugal before integrating the team coached by Francesco Farioli. The transfer is a result of Souza's desire to play more games, having only played four matches for Tottenham in the 2025/26 season. He hopes to gain more experience in European football to increase his chances of being selected for the Brazilian national team ahead of the 2030 World Cup.
The interest in Souza from Porto dates back to July, when they were in talks with the player's current club, Benfica. However, the deal did not go through at the time. As a result of the loan, Santos will not receive any financial compensation, but they will retain the right to 10% of any future sale of Souza by Tottenham.
