Telstar coach Henk Brugge was targeted by fans who shouted 'Henkie, rot op' (Henk, get lost) during the match, which Telstar lost 1-0. Brugge acknowledged the impact of the abuse, saying: "Yes, as a person, it always affects you. People have criticism for you and you feel it too, but I know it's part of the job." He also emphasised the responsibility that comes with being a coach, stating: "You're responsible for what happens on the pitch. The emotions of the people in the stands are expressed in this way. You take it home, but I have to stay professional."
Brugge's comments suggest that he is taking the abuse in stride. The Telstar coach will face Almere City again in the league on 30 October 2023.
