The changes aim to reduce dead time in matches, with a focus on stoppages in play. Substituted players will now have just 10 seconds to leave the pitch once the board is raised, or their replacement will be held back until the next stoppage. This is in line with protocols trialled at this summer's World Cup. Football Italia reports that the meeting was held to run through the regulatory changes, which will come into force for the 2026/27 season.

The changes also affect throw-ins and goal kicks, with a five-second countdown introduced for both. If a side stalls beyond the five-second mark, a corner will be awarded against them. Players receiving treatment will need to stay off the pitch for a full minute after the restart. VAR's powers have been widened to cover mistaken identity and clearly incorrect second yellow cards. This is part of the league's efforts to increase the effective playing time of matches and make games more dynamic and spectacular.

Lega Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo framed the session as preparation rather than novelty, highlighting the importance of collaboration between the league and the AIA in guaranteeing the best application of the new rules. The changes are set to be implemented for the 2026/27 season, with the aim of reducing dead time in matches and improving the overall flow of the game.
