Ronald Waterreus, a former PSV player, has shared his opinion on Mauro Júnior's selection for the Brazilian national team. Waterreus does not see why Mauro was chosen, as he doesn't think the 27-year-old meets the expectations of a Brazilian international. "I don't see him as a Brazilian international," Waterreus said in a Voetbal International podcast. He was referring to his own time, when players like Roberto Carlos sprinted down the flanks of the Seleção. "I've always looked at Brazil with big names, but they've become a bit one-dimensional now," Waterreus concluded.
