According to Bundesliga, Treu's impressive performances for Freiburg, who topped the table after Matchday 3 of the 2026/27 season, caught the eye of Germany coach Jürgen Klopp. The Freiburg sporting director Klemens Hartenbach praised Treu's defensive skills and ability to create goal-scoring opportunities, stating that he brings a good mix of stamina and speed to the pitch. Freiburg coach Julian Schuster also highlighted Treu's importance in maintaining the team's values and culture.

Treu's call-up comes after a successful stint with Freiburg, where he smashed his first Bundesliga goal from the edge of the box against Wolfsburg on Matchday 15 and made 28 league appearances, plus 14 more in the UEFA Europa League. The 25-year-old right-back has a similar playing style to Nathaniel Brown, a speedy and polished full-back who operates on the other flank.

The next step for Treu will be to join the Germany national team for their upcoming squad selection in September 2026.
