Abel Ferreira will not be able to command the Palmeiras in the next three games in the Brazilian Championship, against São Paulo, Grêmio and Bahia, in October, after the Data Fifa. The coach was initially set to serve a two-game suspension in the 3rd Disciplinary Commission of the STJD, for kicking a microphone on the edge of the field during the draw with Mirassol. However, the STJD's plenary session increased the suspension to three games after the club's request for suspensive effect was denied.
Palmeiras' lawyer, André Sica, argued that the case should not be classified under Article 258, as the team of arbiters analysed the case on the field and did not see the gravity of the fact. However, Marcelo Mendes, procurador-geral do STJD, reasserted the need for punishment, stating that the coach's act was a clear infringement of sports ethics and required a penalty greater than two games, leading to six games of suspension, the maximum of the article in which the complaint was made.
Abel Ferreira will now serve his three-game suspension, starting with the games against São Paulo, Grêmio and Bahia in October.
