The 26-year-old, who started playing football later than most, at six or seven, after trying out "literally every other sport", retains a deep appreciation for the joy it has brought her from the first moment.
Malard's love for the game was instant, partly because it's a team sport and she loved that you get to enjoy it with everyone in your team. She also felt both strong and free when playing football, which is why she has to play with a lot of energy and a lot of smiles.
The French forward is now focused on becoming a legend at Chelsea and believes that winning the Champions League is the way she can do it. She wants to write her name on a new page, but not any page, a page you remember. For Malard, the way to do that with Chelsea is to win something the club has never won.
Malard has already made a positive impact at Chelsea, scoring on both her WSL and Champions League debuts for the club. She came off the bench in the 5-2 home win over Real Sociedad in qualifying, making the difference with the score at 2-2 by scoring the first of her two goals 12 minutes later.
Chelsea's next match is against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, a game that Malard is excited about.
