According to a report by Globo Esporte, Marvin Ávila, an 18-year-old Guatemalan footballer, made his debut for São Paulo sub-20 after joining the club in April. He underwent a lengthy period of adaptation, participating in training sessions normally, focusing on matching the physical level of his teammates and adapting to Brazilian football.
Ávila made his debut in the Paulistão against Desportivo Brasil, providing one assist in a 1-0 win. He also assisted in a 13-1 victory over Santo Antônio-MS in the Copa do Brasil. The São Paulo club paid $250,000 (R$ 1.2 million) for 80% of Ávila's economic rights.
Ávila is considered one of Guatemala's top football talents and has already made his debut for the country's senior team. He was hospitalised after being struck by lightning at the age of 15. He will return to action once the postponed match against União São João is rescheduled, due to heavy rain in Cota.
