According to Voetbal International, Maresca was asked if he was happy that there was no VAR present for the League Cup match against Norwich City. 'I find it a bit unfortunate that only this is being talked about after our game. We played 70 to 75 minutes with ten men very well. I was very happy with how we performed,' Maresca said.
Maresca also pointed out that Manchester United have benefited from refereeing errors in the past. 'Yes, a mistake was made, as it has been proven. Sometimes it goes for you, sometimes it goes against you. Three years ago something similar happened in United's favour and no one apologised. This is just part of football,' he said.
Maresca acknowledged that VAR officials also make mistakes, given the time pressure they are under. 'I can also imagine that the work of the VAR is not always easy. You have to make a decision within ten to twenty seconds and mistakes can be made. I make mistakes, just like my players,' Maresca said.
