The club's spending spree has brought in midfield trio Enzo Fernandez, Elliot Anderson, and Ayyoub Bouaddi, but they have also recouped more than £300m in sales. This includes the departures of experienced players such as 2024 Ballon d'Or winner Rodri, former captain Bernardo Silva, and England international John Stones.
Dias has been part of City's leadership group since joining from Benfica for £65m in 2020 and has now been handed the armband by Maresca. The 29-year-old has played over 250 games for the club, winning four Premier League titles, the Champions League, and two FA Cups. He is one of only four players remaining from the 2023 Treble-winning squad, alongside Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, and Rico Lewis.
The speed of change at City means Dias is now one of the longest-serving players at the club. He has committed his future to the club by signing a contract extension until 2029, with the option of a further year. Dias is excited about the new challenge and the new players who have joined the club, and he believes that the mix of experience and ambition will make the club continue to succeed.
Next step: Manchester City face their sternest test so far with a trip to Manchester United on Sunday (kick-off 16:30 BST).
