Uzun's impressive display was a key factor in Frankfurt's win, with the youngster picking up 56 percent of the Man of the Match vote. He opened the scoring in the 9th minute, after Jonathan Burkardt squared the ball unselfishly for him to stroke home. Frankfurt struck again in the 45th minute, when Burkardt pounced on a loose ball deep inside the Mainz half before lashing an unstoppable shot past Robin Zentner.

Mainz pushed for an equaliser, but were handed a golden opportunity to get back on level terms when Raphael Onyedika brought down Sheraldo Becker inside the area. However, Nadiem Amiri's spot kick was saved by Noah Atubolu, who has now saved the last six penalties he has faced in Germany's top division. Frankfurt's dominance continued in the second half, with Uzun doubling his personal tally after being teed up by substitute Mario Götze.

Mainz emerged from the interval with greater purpose, but were unable to reduce the arrears in the early stages of the second period. Tietz turned home Otto Ruoppi's cross to net a late consolation for the home side, but it was too little, too late for Fischer's charges. The result sees Eintracht Frankfurt continue their impressive form, while Mainz will be looking to bounce back from this defeat.
