Messi, an eight-time Ballon d'Or winner, has agreed to take over the Spanish club CD Eldense, which currently plays in LaLiga2, the second tier of Spanish football. The Argentinian superstar is said to have made a direct bid for the club, acquiring 100% of its shares. This move comes after Messi previously owned UE Cornellà, a club that plays in the fifth tier of Spanish football.
CD Eldense was founded in 1921 and has been owned by the Colombian group TH, led by president Carolina Holguín, since last year. The club has made significant progress in recent years, promoting to the second tier for the first time in its history in 2023. They currently sit 20th in the Segunda División.
An official announcement of the takeover is expected in the coming days, according to El Mundo.
