Leeds United and Brentford played out a thrilling 1-1 draw at Elland Road, with both teams showing plenty of positives in a game that had enough moments to suggest they can be optimistic about what lies ahead. The match was a quintessential game of two halves, with Brentford dominating the first half and Leeds turning it around in the second.
Brentford's Kevin Schade scored a wonderful finish for the visitors as half-time approached, but Leeds responded at the interval by changing their formation to a back four, which worked in their favour. The German tactic allowed Leeds to match Brentford's shape and they got a deserved equaliser with 11 minutes remaining, as Dominic Calvert-Lewin turned home a Lukas Nmecha cross.
The draw was the right result on the balance of play, but Brentford may have felt they should have been further ahead before half-time after dominating Leeds for almost all of the opening 45 minutes. James Trafford was called upon multiple times in that first half, denying Schade and Igor Thiago with smart reaction saves.
