Chivu has praised Martinez's ambition and dedication, saying that he returned from the World Cup as early as possible and cut his holiday short to get back to work. The Nerazzurri head coach believes that Martinez has the right ambition to have a big season, and that he is motivated despite the disappointment of a lost World Cup final. Martinez has been with Inter for nine years and is the team's captain.

Chivu also spoke about Pio Esposito, a player who he believes is important for the team because he knows his position within the group and helps to keep the levels in training high and raises the level in that department. The Nerazzurri head coach was unwilling to give much away when asked about the transfer session that Inter have had this summer, but he did say that the team has had a fluid transfer market and has tried to bring quality and raise the level in what was already a strong and competitive squad.

Inter has an upcoming Serie A clash away against Cagliari on Sunday evening.
