Tebas also took aim at Real Madrid's president, Florentino Pérez, and the club's fans, saying "Real Madrid are crucial to La Liga. But claiming that 'La Liga is worth nothing' without them reveals the disdain for the other clubs, their fans, and their history." He emphasized that the competition belongs to no one, and that referees should not be influenced by revenue, viewership, or the badge of a particular club.
The comments come as Real Madrid have made a stuttering start to the season, sitting six points behind the reigning champions and early leaders, Barcelona.
