Nicolo Tresoldi was born and raised in Cagliari to Italian parents. He moved to Germany as a teenager and went on to represent Hannover at club level and the Germany U19s and U21s at international level. Tresoldi remains eligible to represent both Italy and Germany at senior level.

Tresoldi has been in high demand, with hopes that he would be part of Roberto Mancini's Italy national team squad for the Nations League fixtures. He has been in impressive form for Club Brugge, providing 32 goal involvements from 58 appearances across all competitions. He has begun the 2026-27 campaign with five goals from eight games in all competitions. The striker has averaged a goal every other game for Germany's U21s and has an almost identical scoring rate for Club Brugge in the league.

Germany national team head coach Klopp has spoken about Tresoldi's situation, stating that the youngster has not yet made a decision over the nation he will represent at senior international level. Tresoldi is set to continue with the Germany U21s for the time being.
