Theo Janssen, De Treffers' coach, experienced one of the best nights of his young coaching career as his team defeated Heracles Almelo 1-0 in the first round of the cup tournament. De Treffers' victory was largely due to Heracles' decision to make eight new player appearances, which seemed to have underestimated the second division team. Defender Mario Borac was sent off in the 55th minute after receiving his second yellow card, leaving Heracles with a numerical disadvantage. Sebastiaan van Bakel scored the decisive goal in the 61st minute, beating Heracles' goalkeeper Timo Jansink with a low shot after a cross from Kane Keizer.
