FIFA President Gianni Infantino has expressed his willingness to engage in discussions about reforms within the world governing body, according to a letter seen by The Athletic. The letter proposes a review of the FIFA Council's structure during its meeting on 15 October, with an independent external party to investigate how the organisation handles major strategic initiatives and identify areas for improvement.
Infantino has also announced plans to establish a formal, temporary dialogue with confederations, national associations and other stakeholders to strengthen decision-making within FIFA. This move comes after he faced criticism over the FIFA Forward Enterprise plan, which was later withdrawn due to widespread criticism. Infantino acknowledges that large and ambitious plans require a decision-making process that inspires trust.
Infantino has announced his intention to seek re-election as FIFA President, despite the UEFA and several European associations having withdrawn their support for him. He currently has no official challenger, with other candidates having until 18 November to come forward.
