Gainsborough Trinity, who play in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, say the individual has contacted 'a number of players' across different levels of the non-league pyramid. CEO Matt Boles made it "categorically clear" that communication over potential deals had not been from manager Russ Wilcox, who has been in charge since 2023, or on behalf of the club.

The club has condemned the actions of the individual responsible, calling it "completely unacceptable" and potentially causing "unnecessary disruption and reputational damage" to players, managers and clubs. Boles also issued a strong message to the person responsible, saying "Enough is enough" and urging them to "get a life".

Gainsborough Trinity have made the Northern Premier League and Football Association aware of the incidents, and it remains to be seen how the situation will be handled further.
